Smile for the Birdie

This horse, on a farm along Vandorf Sideroad, west of Hwy 48, north of the city, was very content to pose for me while I snapped away. Of the four horses milling around the fence, it was the only one that didn’t seem to shy away from the electrified cord that ran along the top of the fence. He was very happy when I patted his nose, too.

Three Little Ducks Went Out to Play

My three-year-old daughter has been singing this song a lot recently: ‘Three little ducks went out to play, over the hill and far away. The momma duck said ‘quack, quack, quack’ and only two little ducks came back.’ Kinda morbid, when you think of it. Anyway, seeing these three little ducklings at Richmond Green, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, reminded me of that song.

Ladybug

My English aunt, who was visiting last summer when I took this picture, calls this insect a ladybird. Sounds a bit graceful and elegant to me, and insects are, in my mind, neither. So I sent her home with a print and the word ladybug written on the back.

Sonic Goose

When I was about 16, my friend Jeff and I were hanging out on the street one day when I said something about a bird in the sky. Jeff misunderstood me and thought I had said, ‘Look at that sonic goose go!’ (Or words to that effect. Sixteen was a long time ago.) For some reason this picture reminds me of that day.
