Lane Revisited

I first shot this lane and field (see below) in October 2007, not long after I started photography as a hobby. At the time I was satisfied with the result, despite (what I now realize) is horrible lens flare through the middle of the shot. So in July 2008 I drove past the same spot and retook the photo. It turned out much better the second time around.

Ladybug

My English aunt, who was visiting last summer when I took this picture, calls this insect a ladybird. Sounds a bit graceful and elegant to me, and insects are, in my mind, neither. So I sent her home with a print and the word ladybug written on the back.

Painted Face

This is a shot from last summer, taken during a street festival around Toronto’s St. Lawrence Market. This woman was getting her face painted and I raised my lens initially to get a shot of the artist. But this woman turned her head and smiled just as I zoomed in so I snapped her instead. ‘Did you just take my picture?’ she asked. ‘Yup’, I said, and moved on.
